North Face recently refused to sell Jackets to an oil company because they think Oil is bad, yet North Face makes many of their products with oil.

The 2021 Davos summit will be moved from Switzerland and held in-person in Singapore in May, due to the pandemic. This is hypocritical because their jets cause a huge carbon footprint, flying from Europe to Singapore.

I feel cheated when I discover that I bought a North Face coat and my money went to a Company so silly as to use it for political deception.

This is an example of the elite “Davos crowd”, dictating to the lower class. The Wall Street Journal  Op Ed by Alexander William Salter describes this phenomenon well:

Profit keeps corporate leaders honest. ‘Stakeholder capitalism’ allows the Davos crowd to obfuscate what counts as success for a business Vs Capitalism advocate Milton Friedman, whom famously wrote against the dangers in popular notions of corporate social responsibility. Friedman argued that the chief duty of business was “to use its resources and engage in activities designed to increase its profits so long as it stays within the rules of the game, which is to say, engages in open and free competition without deception. Corporate Social goals can be hijacked by deceptive groups. The theme for Davos 2020 was, “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World, with a focus on renewing the concept of stakeholder capitalism to overcome income inequality, societal division and the climate crisis”. They obviously have short memories of their goals, but I can understand that they find the few hotels in Davos an unpleasant experience and choose the luxurious hotels in Singapore. After all Singapore is a genuine Capitalist stronghold and that is the reason that many Shipping and oil business thrive in Singapore.

Profit is a metric that allows shareholders to hold executives accountable for their performance. I feel cheated when I discover that I bought a North Face coat and my money went to a Company so silly as to use it for political deception.
